Acceptance vs White Knuckling it

Acceptance is one of the best ways to respond to anxiety. This is different than white knuckling it though.

White knuckling it looks like:

  • “When will this end? When will this end?”
  • “I’m just going to get through this quickly”

Acceptance looks like:

  • “This is not dangerous and I’m ok with this”
  • “I can’t change or control this feeling. I will continue with what I’m doing despite this discomfort”

Even though on the surface acceptance and white knuckling may look the same, it’s our self-talk and attitude beneath the surface that matters the most.
